THE DESIGNER- Fentse Mokale

Fentse was born in Phokeng- a village in the North West of South Africa.

A trained Chemical Engineer, Fentse takes the concept of traditional African rope necklaces, to engineer contemporary unique shapes, lines, and curves.

THE INSPIRATION

From the Victorian dresses of the Herero Tribe in Namibia; to the bold Maasai ceremonial necklaces in Kenya; to the majestic style and talent of one of South Africa’s most iconic jazz musicians, Miriam Makeba- Fentse draws inspiration from her extensive travels across Africa and her love for its art and culture.

Most of Fentse's work uses Shweshwe fabric, proudly seen as an iconic Southern African fabric. The fabric is used in traditional ceremonies, and to make the clothing of newly married Xhosa and Sotho women.
